LANGHAM VILLAGE STREET MARKET is to go ahead in 2021 after having to be cancelled last year in a similar way to many other events. With the very successful vaccination programme underway, it is expected that the majority of the population will be protected against Covid-19 before August. However, there will be major changes to how the Street Market will operate this year as the organisers are sensibly taking steps to avoid activities indoors and those outdoors likely to attract crowding. Street Market stalls will be spaced further apart along Church Street, which will be closed to traffic from Melton Road to Well Street, plus a number of stalls (including Village Hall ones) in driveways further down Church Street towards the main car parking area on Ashwell Road. A one-way system will operate again to help stall-holders in setting up before the road closure.
There will be something for everybody in the family to enjoy between 10.30 am and 4.00 pm with Market stalls selling everything imaginable, a Fire Engine, Vintage Traction Engine, Morris dancing, music in the church, barbecue, refreshments and the usual Village Hall stalls: bric-a-brac; books; tombola and a raffle with a huge number of prizes. Parking, including for the disabled, will be signposted.
See the gallery of photos from previous Street Markets.
The Raffle will have a huge number of prizes including cash and various vouchers etc. To make sure of everyone being able to get raffle tickets they will be on sale from early August as well as during the Street Market.
To ask for application forms for Street Market pitches E-mail Penny or telephone 01572 771115. There are three price bands from £15 (for Langham residents) to £27.50 and stalls must be booked and paid for in advance. The limited number of stall positions suitable for Gazebos are likely to book up very quickly.
The organisers are well into the planning for this year’s market but are looking for additional volunteers to help with stewarding, running village hall stalls and car parking. To help or donate E-mail Penny .
This is one of the most successful events in our village calendar with profits helping to finance our Village Hall (charity number 522341) and allowing other local organisations to raise funds. All profits from Village Hall stalls, tombola, raffle and Street Market pitch fees will be used for Village Hall refurbishments and maintenance.
